The work, preceded by a Preface by Nicolangelo D'acunto, collects nine large articles dedicated, in the footsteps of the teachings of Cinzio Violante and Cosimo Damiano Fonseca, to the study of municipal society, in its articulations in groups of the high society of the marquis and comit , in the family complexes of the episcopal vassals (capitanei and valvassori), in the social contexts of the entrepreneurial and mercantile world and in the varied set of "laboratores", organized into corporations. Furthermore, in this social complex, the presence of the city world also emerges in the countryside through the plebeian ecclesiastical organization, with the payments of tithes, which supported both the clergy in care of souls and the noble world of the episcopal vassals. The study on the 1093 map of the counts of Biandrate is particularly interesting, as they were able, with full vision of the complexity of the social classes of the rural world, to organize a parish and at the same time noble castle society. In fact, in 1093 they entrusted the government of the castle to their milites, retaining only the powers of judgment on blood crimes, so that a concrete agreement occurred between the milites and the rustic inhabitants inside and outside the castle, obviously called into the service of the ' carriages during military expeditions. True anticipations of political methods that would then be widely used in the Po Valley cities in the 12th century.
