Abstract
[Autom. eng. transl.] The objective of this study is to evaluate whether the current regulation of novel foods at European level is able to promote technological innovation in the food sector and, in this way, to contribute to food safety (understood in the sense of food security ) and the reduction of the environmental impact of food production. To this end, we focus, firstly, on the scope of application of the regulation currently in force on novel foods (reg. 2015/2283); secondly, on the authorization procedure for novel foods provided for by this regulation; finally, on the data protection regime, which where applicable allows the applicant to obtain an exclusive right to market a new food for a period of five years.
