Abstract

[Autom. eng. transl.] Since 1955, the year of its foundation, the Feltrinelli publishing house has been a reference point for Italian and international leftist movements. Its owner and founder, Giangiacomo Feltrinelli, heir to an important family of bankers and an active member of the Communist Party was, in effect, an influential and also revolutionary patron of the left, whose main interest was to elaborate projects to compile world historical memory that witness the struggles against political and military regimes and at the same time educate the masses. This utopian ideal was the reason that at the end of the 1940s he pushed him to undertake two different cultural projects - the Giangiacomo Feltrinelli Institute first and the Giangiacomo Feltrinelli Editore publishing house later - that would allow him to take an active part in Italian politics and culture committing to spread news and propaganda materials through its publications. With the '60s, it was almost automatic for Feltrinelli to follow with interest the events that interested Latin America. The Cuban events and the other conflict situations that were outlined in the subcontinent aroused their interest and their commitment - economic and cultural - with the reasons for a struggle in which Feltrinelli himself was actively participating. The present study aims to analyze the most political projects launched by the Feltrinelli publishing house to investigate how its founder contributed to the construction of the image of Latin America and Central America in Italy and to understand how “the reasons” of the struggle have shaped the editorial elections of more editorial cut of the same editorial. In particular, with reference to the most political texts disseminated by Feltrinelli Editore, we will stop in the analysis of the series “Documenti della rivoluzione nell'America Latina”, published between 1967 and 1970, to focus on the tone and style that was granted to the revolutions in Latin America and delineate, in this way, from what point of view from Italy they looked at them.
