Abstract
[Autom. eng. transl.] Pope Francis posed with the faithful in front of a smartphone, Obama picked up with a selfie stick in his hand, boys photographing themselves on the street: everyday life sees us more and more often as witnesses of situations in which someone takes a selfie. It has been estimated that, as early as 2014, over 90 million selfies per day were shared online, or 34 billion in a year, practically 5 selfies for each inhabitant of the earth. But why do we take a selfie? What does this behavior mean from a psychological and social point of view? Is it just a self-referential act?
