Abstract
The growing presence of foreign students in the Italian school system offers a new perspective for the analysis of the link between education and citizenship. The article aims to examine the role of educational institutions in increasing the chance of belonging and participation of young foreigners, in plural and multicultural context. In particular, in multi-ethnic schools and classes, it is examined, on the one hand, the opportunities for learning of the second generation and, on the other hand, the possibility of exchange between pupils from different backgrounds, both fundamental aspects of the experience of citizenship.
