Abstract
[Autom. eng. transl.] On May 23, 1326 Cardinal Betrand du Poujet, Pope John XXII's legate in Italy, commissioned two ecclesiastics from Vercelli, Francesco abbot of the rectory of S. Andrea and Palaino Avogadro in charge of the cathedral chapter, to complete the visitatio in the abbey of S Benigno di Fruttuaria. The monastery - located in the territory of the diocese of Ivrea but with no average dependence on the Roman Church - was for some time in a phase of profound spiritual and economic crisis. The 34 measures taken by the two executores et visitatores were communicated to Abbot Bernardo and to the monks with a letter written on November 27, 1326, which was copied shortly afterwards on four parchments sewn together, which form a roll about 150 cm long.
