Abstract

Assessment literacy is a strategic competence to manage the complexity of modern society. The decision-making process should be based on valid data and elements in order to lead to a good decision. The choice of upper secondary school is an example of a complex choice. This task is demanding and often can bring on feelings of anxiety and stress to students and parents; this choice can in fact impact on the academic success of students. At the same time, this process involves many people: students with their wishes and aspirations; parents with their expectations; teachers with their opinions formalized into the school guidance. In this frame, we manage a survey to highlight the decision-making process related to upper secondary education choice from the parents’ perspective. This empirical action is part of a broader joint project (Catholic University Sacred Heart and Local School Authority in Varese) aimed to fight training failure in Varese (Lombardy, Italy)
