Abstract
What is waste in the 21st-century economic system? This essay illustrates one of the limitations of the contemporary economic model, which, despite having produced undeniable successes, has also generated economic, social, and environmental 'waste'. The resulting 'culture of waste', denounced by Pope Francis, causes multiple harms, generating exclusion and marginalization, and environmental backlash. The essay examines some virtuous experiences that originated within "The Economy of Francesco", aimed at countering the culture of waste at all levels, in a perspective of true economic, political and social inclusion.
