Abstract
[Autom. eng. transl.] The thinning of the shoots, or "scacchiatura", generally practiced when their length is between 15 and 25 cm, improves the microclimate of the bunches and the functionality of the leaf apparatus, leaving 15-25 shoots / m of thread. However, to date there are no specific responses to the effects it has on crown chemistry. The experimentation on Barbera reported here shows that a density of about 15 shoots / m allows a complete recovery of the photosynthetic potential of the foliage from the beginning. Conversely, a lower density (10 shoots / m) generates a certain delay in photosynthetic recovery which, at veraison, reaches 90% compared to the control. These observations suggest that, in the case of maturations often anticipated and unbalanced due to excess sugar content, reduced titratable acidity and atypical varietal aromas, the use of scacchiatura should be carefully evaluated, leaving more buds or not executing them.
