Abstract
In the ambit of a project meant to restore and improve the crypt of the Romanesque church of San Pietro al Monte (Civate–LC), a limited excavation intervention brought to the location of an ossuary: the anthropological and archaeometric analysis of the remains, including those belonging to a grave found in 1993, recognized six men buried between 7th and 11th century.\r\nIn the same time it was started a study of finds discovered in the surveys of 1983-85 and 1993 and materials (specially fragments of painted plaster) collected by don Vincenzo Gatti which were given back to the Soprintendenza after his death. The collected new data allow some new reflections on the characteristics of the crypt and on the context that may have determined its construction and use.
