Abstract

[Autom. eng. transl.] The contribution traces the events of the monastery of San Barnaba in Brescia (current seat of the Luca Marenzio conservatory), after the settlement in 1456 of the observant Augustinian community. Through a series of unpublished documents found during the research, the site promoted by the religious is first reconstructed, following the main construction phases of the complex, highlighting the main interventions and the artists involved in it. A paragraph of the text focuses on the famous "libraria" frescoed by Giovanni Pietro da Cemmo and his workshop and some indications are given regarding the book heritage (manuscript and printed) preserved in it. Finally, the transformations of the church annexed to the monastery and the decoration of the chapels made by some prominent figures of Renaissance Brescia are analyzed.
