Abstract
[Autom. eng. transl.] Public thing: a concept that is more in the balance today, considering the increasingly pervasive infiltration of private logic into the functioning of institutions which introduces protocol-type modeling incapable of resonating with citizen demand. Yet by vocation the institutions would be safeguards of civilization, places in which to forge or heal our humanity, centers of reception of life, if necessary real crisis units; and, today more than ever, the lungs of a society depleted of civil values and in dramatic oxygen debt.
How can we put their nature as public things back at the center of the debate, keeping them in constant dialogue with the territories and communities?
In light of the heritage of cultures and practices handed down to us by our past history and in the awareness of no longer being able to count on rescues 'from above', the authors of this volume develop an unprecedented dialogue between their different skills - philosophical-sociological on the one hand and psychoanalytic-therapeutic on the other - addressing a series of crucial questions: from a profound and critical rethinking of the function of leadership to the need to outline a truly establishing ethics of team practices, up to the challenge of a training that is not merely professional, but capable of making those who work in institutions perceive the importance and nobility of their work.
Because the public Thing - which concerns, as the authors also show us with concrete references, politics as well as school, the economy as well as therapeutic practice - is always an expression of the Thing par excellence, that specific human interwoven with mutual recognition that we call community civil.
