Abstract

[Autom. eng. transl.] Several and numerous are the contributions that the organizational literature has provided with reference to the relationship between technology and structure and the managerial implications of this relationship are equally remarkable, especially in the light of today's technological revolutions. However, the way in which organizational micro-structures are remodeled, often enriching themselves, when a disruptive innovation modifies routines and work processes is still an area worthy of further study. The aim of this contribution is to propose a reflection on technological change and its individual and organizational implications. In particular, through the recognition of the available literature, this work has the ambition to contribute to the understanding of how the characteristics of an innovative technological solution are capable of modifying not only the processes, the physical and organizational configuration of the space and the actors, but also the relative mutual perception, the nature and structure of the interactions, the involvement of individuals in the decision making process. The opportunity to reflect on these issues is provided by the operating room setting and robotic surgery, the introduction of which required extraordinary revolutions compared to a traditional configuration of activities. The study takes into consideration, in a narrative key, the existing contributions in the literature on the subject, and constitutes an invitation to enrich the debate on the relationship between technology and structure, with particular reference to the micro-structural dynamics of work.
