Abstract

Plinius the Younger in his Epistles sketches a portrait of ideal Roman landowner, comparable to that of the ideal country gentleman of modern Great Britain. Plinius and his friends pose in a continuous aspiration both to 'otium' and 'negotium', intellectual and physical activities, among which hunting has a privileged role.
