Abstract

[Autom. eng. transl.] This contribution aims to propose a reflection on social work practices to support the needs of young caregivers. The reflections proposed are the result of participatory research carried out in Italy in 2019 with the aim of understanding the peculiarities of the phenomenon of caregiving by minors in the Italian context. Young caregivers are children and young people not yet of age, regularly engaged in family care work (Becker, 2007). In the international literature, the phenomenon is estimated with an incidence from 2% to 8% (Joseph et al., 2019; Leu and Becker, 2017) and, in particular, the European "MeWe European" report of 2019 shows that in the Italian context, 6.6% of adolescents and young people between 15 and 24 are engaged in care work (ME-WE Project, European Union, 2019). In order to propose a reflection on social work practices in support of young caregivers, this contribution consists of a theoretical part aimed at identifying the crucial elements of the phenomenon, a part dedicated to the research methodology in which particular attention is given to '' participatory approach (Aldridge, 2015), of a part dedicated to the presentation of the main results of the secondary survey of ISTAT data, of the survey research and of the focus group and of a part in which some concluding considerations are presented.
