Abstract
[Autom. eng. transl.] The essay, included in the catalog of the exhibition "Fortuny and Wagner. Wagnerism in the visual arts in Italy" (Venice, Palazzo Fortuny, 8 December 2012 - 8 April 2013), edited by the same Paolo Bolpagni, examines the theoretical contributions dedicated by Richard Wagner to the visual arts (painting, sculpture, architecture) within his major treatises ("The art and the revolution", "The work of art of the future", "Opera and Drama"). One of the many factors of originality of the contribution of Richard Wagner to the history of European culture consists in fact of having dedicated himself - from musician, playwright and poet - also to the reflection on the development, the role and the statutes of the visual-spatial arts, although considered mainly within the great visionary conceptual building of the futuristic "Gesamtkunstwerk", advocated in writings and (infidelally) implemented in sound creation.
