Abstract
[Autom. eng. transl.] To understand how television messages are received, transforming the societies in which they are expressed through individual behaviors, it is possible to try to break down audiences as a historical and social element, defining the methods and forms of access, understanding and decoding of messages. With this precise intention, the essay by Piermarco Aroldi on the television memories of the Italian boomers lies exactly in the intersection between different traditions of studies that together have contributed to the creation of a real historiography of television reception: on the one hand, precisely, the Anglo-Saxon cultural studies, which make ethnography the methodological center of their own research; on the other, the so-called audience studies, with their first definitions of public as an integral part of each media system. These two approaches are integrated by the author through a careful look at generational dynamics, aimed at historicizing memories and television consumption as individual, collective and shared experiences.
