Abstract
[Autom. eng. transl.] The theme of the reflection is the relationship between citizenship education and research, understood as particular experience, practice and commitment direction. Dwelling on this relationship leads to the question of whether and how research addresses and is of assistance to education and citizenship, but also if and how education for citizenship urges and is a factor of development and growth for research. The report in question can in fact be divided according to three guidelines: educational research on citizenship; educational research for citizenship, which corresponds to the commitment to an activity of knowledge development but also to contextual support and promotion of the well-known object; research as an exercise and experience of citizenship. According to this last meaning, the competence and practice of research constitute an intrinsic dimension of educational professionalism and are configured as a significant way of exercising the right and duty of citizenship. The scientific rigor and intellectual honesty of the research are in fact a guarantee of the critical exercise of professionalism and, with this, of the contribution to the common good and to the ethical progress of society.
