Abstract

[Autom. eng. transl.] In light of the continual demographic growth of our planet, it is necessary to find solutions to adapt the production of food for humans. However, this must take place without compromising the ecosystem and maintaining or improving soil fertility. The objective can be achieved, as claimed by the FAO in the document "Save and grow" (2011), if the use of new technologies aims to increase productivity, especially where it is low (developing countries, DCs), and to reduce the environmental impact (lower energy and rational use of resources and technical means) where today it is high (developed countries, PS). The project "Appropriate food production: sufficient, safe, sustainable", lasting six years and funded by the Romeo and Enrica Invernizzi foundation as part of Expo 2015, aims to meet these objectives and is implemented on 3 pilot centers that differ in degree of development: high (Piacenza, Italy), intermediate (Tikrikilla, India) and low (Kabinda, Democratic Republic of the Congo). In each of them we operate - in different ways - to achieve the same goals: to detect the quantitative and qualitative availability of food for human consumption, to propose new agro-livestock production systems, to develop suitable techniques for processing and preserving foodstuffs , in order to achieve food self-sufficiency and environmental and economic sustainability.
