Abstract

The aim of this paper is to reflect on the nature and the components of the fortitude as an ethical virtue that today easily risks to be misunderstood. Therefore, I will reflect on what fortitude is not and I will try to define and examine it, both as a cardinal virtue that is a condition of all the others, and in its specificity, mentioning its components, or the virtues that assist it, distinguishing it for example from resignation and pacifism and asserting its relationship with love. At the end I will make some eschatological suggestions.
