Abstract
[Autom. eng. transl.] This paper empirically analyzes the relationship between banking competition and credit availability, using information relating to the financing relationships of a large sample of companies (over 30,000) stratified by size, location and sectoral membership. The results show that, in a system characterized by competition in supply and by credit lines supported by suitable guarantees, bank-firm relations appear more intense and lasting over time. Finally, consistent with the theoretical approach of relationship lending, both the intensity of the relationship (in terms of duration and exclusivity) and the sectoral specialization positively condition the availability of credit.
