[Autom. eng. transl.] Solitudes, poverty, uncertainties and risks, discrimination and violence are conditions that today are widespread in the world in the era of non-governed globalization. In rich societies as in poor ones, situations of oppression, with forms changed from the past, persist dramatically. Faced with these widespread existential conditions, education and social work are often found to be powerless, even meaningless. Revisiting the educational, social, cultural and political experience of Paulo Freire - which developed in an age and in social and cultural contexts very different from the current ones - allows us to go to the sources of the meaning of educating in social today. There we find the deepest meaning of education as liberation from contemporary forms of oppression of consciences. A truly dialogic and problematic education is necessary and possible today. Reinventing Freire - as he himself recommended to do: "Don't repeat me, reinvent me!" - means reading the world of today by developing critical awareness, as the main task of education. The study proposes a systematization of strategies and methods of educational and social intervention experienced in the field and inspired by the perspective of Freirian pedagogy. The volume - addressed to educational and social operators, teachers and socio-cultural animators - analyzes some themes that are today "generators" of our age: competence as private / social capital, globalization / localization, monocultural / pluricultural, technical / humanization.
