Abstract
Discusses the contributions in this collective volume, which contains the proceedings of the International Conference held at the Pontifical University of the Holy Cross - Rome (19 May 2011). The common thread is identified by the need to appeal to a 'auctoritas', otherwise identified, from which to derive the criterion of truth in the context of the confrontation between pagans and christians in Late Antiquity.
