Abstract

[Autom. eng. transl.] The advent of Grande Fratello and the other numerous reality shows that have invaded TV in recent years has profoundly changed both the scenario of the television offer, according to the multi-platform distribution logic of the television product, and that of consumption, with new modes of use . In particular, thanks to the success of Reality TV, public participation is recognized today as one of the most significant aspects, if not the explanatory key, for understanding contemporary television and media. Starting from these premises, the volume proposes an analysis of the Reality genre aimed at highlighting its impact in different areas: from the forms and mechanisms of representation that it inaugurated to the consumption data it recorded; from the social and theoretical debates he raised to the new research directions he suggested in the field of Audience Studies. The volume concludes with the presentation of a research carried out by the author on the aspiring competitors of the Big Brother format, concrete proof of a different way of understanding TV by the public: the expectation of becoming protagonists of the media scene.
