[Autom. eng. transl.] We are allowed to think! More than an exhortation, it is an imperative. It is the call to elaborate a political, social, economic, cultural thought, overcoming useless chatter, ritual celebrations, propaganda, shouted, destructive, depressive oppositions. It is the demanding invitation to be reasonable, to read the present in depth to imagine the future, which the Archbishop of Milan Mons. Delpini, in the traditional Speech of Sant'Ambrogio last December, addressed to all those who live in cities and want good. Hence the concrete proposal to call a "secular synod", an open and constructive confrontation, aimed at giving answers to the questions of solidarity and inclusion that come from the city: reflective thinking promotes, preserves and propitiates "the human-who -It is common". The 2019 City Report collects this proposal and relaunches it to politics and civil society through a first expanded consultation, collecting contributions that measure themselves both on the idea of the city and on the policies and processes of social and institutional innovation that are needed to achieve them. The various voices collected express different points of view and looks, invite discernment and dialogue: a first symbolic step of a journey that urges us to share responsibility and brings to light the soul of the metropolis.
