Abstract

[Autom. eng. transl.] Milan 2040, science fiction or possible future? "Science fiction", if we think of the rapidity of the innovations in which we are immersed. Optimization, automation, digitalization, robotics, industry 4.0, artificial intelligence are words of everyday vocabulary now. Over just twenty years our way of working, consuming, sharing spaces and interests, loving, relating to each other will be completely revolutionized. "Possible future", if imagining the face of the Milan of tomorrow is not just a sophisticated forecasting exercise, built on the elaboration of so-called big data, but it becomes the way through which to be constantly vigilant, discerning, playing for oneself in taking on the responsibility to give a direction to the vintage change that safeguards and always makes the human emerge with courage. The 2040 thus represents the time horizon of a road map along which to proceed with decisive steps to build the Milan we want: polytechnic and humanistic, glocal and shared, university and tourist, attractive, competitive, plural and at the same time inclusive, solidary, free, fair, peaceful, beautiful, livable for all, willing to face individual and collective narcissism. The 2018 Ambrosianeum Report speaks of this, assuming the suburbs as a metaphor par excellence of the city as a living body, a privileged point of view to question oneself on the priorities to be put on the agenda and on which to begin to immediately engrave with hope and trust.
