[Autom. eng. transl.] The conditions of marginality and vulnerability of mountain areas, the importance of protecting the right of citizenship of those who live there and the potential contribution that the environmental and cultural resources of these territories could provide to the well-being of our country make social and economic cohesion of these internal areas are a matter of national importance. Thus we are witnessing in recent years the transition from a essentially welfare mountain policy, aimed at compensating for the fragility factors of these areas, to a policy based on the awareness of the existence of potential resources of high value, which make the mountain a heritage vulnerable but at the same time valuable for the sustainability of Italian development. The national strategy for "internal areas" launched by the Ministry of Territorial Cohesion (Barca 2012) offers an important path for identifying the basic needs and objectives that public mountain policies must meet. The essay presents the results of a multi-year socio-economic analysis on the area of the Reggio Apennines
