Abstract
[Autom. eng. transl.] The volume reviews the main economic and legal aspects of a CBDC. It studies the implications of the issuance of a CBDC for the management of monetary policy and for the process of currency competition at an international level; it analyzes how a cryptocurrency such as Bitcoin can constitute a new asset class within a diversified portfolio. The final chapters focus on two case studies. The first concerns El Salvador, the first nation state to adopt Bitcoin as legal tender. The second concerns China, which – first among large economies – is trying to introduce a CBDC, the e-CNY, on a large scale.
