Abstract

The 2020 US presidential elections were the most attended in American history, as well as the most digital. The electoral confrontation was exacerbated by the personalization of the presidential campaign which sharpened the division already existent within the American society. This article reflects on the inherent limits of the American electoral system - as established by the constitution, federal laws and constitutional practice - with respect to the guarantee of a peaceful transition of political power.
