Abstract
The chapter presents the results of a survey conducted in the fall of 2020 on a sample of 800 young Italian adults. The authors attempt to move away from the rhetoric of the job crisis as a panacea for all the difficulties that are connected to family formation. They, indeed, apply a relational perspective paying special attention to community and contextual dimensions. The results show that greater job stability does not correspond to greater investment in family projects. Instead, intention to marry is influenced by trusting others and feeling a high sense of responsibility for the community in which one lives. In addition, those who feel that they are not alone in dealing with difficulties but are in a relationship of interdependence with others are more likely to desire to have children.
