Abstract

[Autom. eng. transl.] In children, dosages, side effects, toxic doses and sometimes indications are often different. For these reasons we considered it useful to summarize in detail some aspects of clinical pharmacology that may be of interest to pediatricians and all specialists in the pediatric area. For each drug there are specific indications on use in paediatrics, the age range in which it can be used and any organ toxicity, which are listed underlining the conditions in which drug administration may not be appropriate. The handbook provides specific information on the doses and the duration of treatment for the various diseases. It also indicates the age limit at which a treatment can be undertaken and any correlations between the dosages to be used and renal and hepatic function. For drugs administered intravenously the dilution and rate of infusion are indicated and possible incompatibilities with other infusion therapies. For medications administered orally, possible interferences related to food are indicated advising the appropriate intervals of intake.
