The “Indicazioni Nazionali” brought to teachers’ attention the importance of self-assessment and learning how to learn. How can we implement these key competences in the EFL classroom? This article gives some theoretical background and practical examples of self-assessment tools and activities. Implementing self-assessment in the EFL classroom can contribute to making assessment easier to understand and more transparent and, over the course of time, it can help learners take more responsibility for their learning and focus on improving their learning strategies.
