Abstract

[Autom. eng. transl.] Road accidents linked to driving while intoxicated are a problem very much felt at institutional and public opinion level. Among the various existing forms of prevention we find the interventions of the Designated Driver, that is those that promote the selection of a driver who remains sober. Despite their widespread use, the few scientific assessments conducted did not show convincing evidence of effectiveness. This contribution contains some recommendations for the implementation of these interventions in our country, which emerged from a technical work table that saw the participation of 17 professionals who are experts in the field of alcohol-related risk prevention. Among the various elements that emerged, the importance (1) of reasoning in a multi-intervention perspective, (2) of the active involvement of nightclub managers and of the local administrations themselves, (3) to focus on the promotion of control behaviors and social pressure by passengers against the driver and (4) to intervene before people have started drinking.
