Abstract
[Autom. eng. transl.] The purpose of this chapter is to describe how the development of a successful Information System inevitably requires the adaptation of formalized methods to the specifics of the context, of the developers and, last but not least, of the users: we speak in this regard of methods ¿in action¿ «Fitzgerald B., 1994». In this regard we consider it useful to illustrate the development of the Work Information System (SIL) of the Emilia Romagna Region: this portal, destined to be a meeting point between the demand and the job offer for the Region, is characterized by a context that is characterized by a strong fragmentation of small-medium sized companies, with a strong attraction for extra-regional workers and some pronounced seasonal aspects. The chapter is organized taking as a starting point the long-standing debate between method and methodology. After having clarified the terminology, a brief but necessary description of the SIL development project will be given; we will continue to highlight the critical issues encountered which made the application of the "method in action" necessary and the discussion will be concluded with a detailed description of the development process.
