Abstract
[Autom. eng. transl.] In the essay the fourteenth-century decoration of the two side chapels of the choir of the church of the Sant'Antonio in Polesine monastery in Ferrara is considered. Through the stylistic and historical investigation it was possible to recognize in these pictorial testimonies the remains of a single decorative campaign referable to the area of the commission of the first fourteenth-century Este court. The interweaving proposed between pictorial testimonies and written sources - documentary, but also literary - has allowed us to propose the name of the client of the house of Este, to introduce in the studies the names of only two citizens of Ferrara who at the time of the execution of these frescoes declared themselves to be painters, and to open up a glimpse into the cultural and pictorial life of Ferrara in the early fourteenth century.
