Abstract

[Autom. eng. transl.] The prevalence of social poetry could suggest a literary anachronism, in pursuit of outdated fashions, at least in Europe. This interpretation is also due to a certain Hispanic-American tradition. Since the years preceding Independence, writers have engaged their trade in the service of a civic vocation. However, Guatemalan poetry also stands out for its tendency towards formal experimentation. Hence the tendency towards self-taught training from which the fruitful experimentation with regard to the formal disposition of the verse, the use of punctuation marks, the violation of metric severity derives.
