Abstract

[Autom. eng. transl.] The essay analyzes the role of the pop song in contemporary television series, considering the different ways in which it is introduced into the narrative. In particular, there are two places in which the presence of the pop song plays an important role: the opening theme songs and the scenes inside the episodes: in the essay we analyze examples taken from series such as "The OC", "Grey's Anatomy", " The Sopranos ", The" Wire "," Breaking Bad, "Orange Is The New Black", "True Detective", "Mad Men", "Narcos", "The Young Pope" and "The paper house", among the others. In addition to the function of the pop song as an additional narrative device with respect to television serial narration, its role is considered not only as a transmedial narrative device, but also as an instrument for the circulation of contents at a transnational level. Indeed, the songs in internationally distributed television series can be transformed into narrative elements capable of building bridges between different cultural contexts. With the help of several examples, a categorization of the multifaceted and relevant role of the pop song in contemporary television series will be proposed.
