Piccolo schermo. Che cos'è e come funziona la Children's Television

[Autom. eng. transl.] The theme of this book is, at first sight, simple: TV for children. However, under this apparent simplicity there are a series of complex phenomena, which bring into play not only different interpretations of television in our social context, but also and above all different ways of thinking about childhood and recognizing their needs and rights. On the one hand, in fact, its characteristics depend primarily on the properties that, from time to time, in the different broadcasting regimes, are recognized to children and young people as a peculiar segment of the audience: subjects to be educated, citizens to be trained, users to entertain, consumers to cultivate and so on. On the other hand, this programming appears to be the outcome of a complex and articulated media ecosystem, an integral part of the television sector, on the border between material and immaterial, education and evasion, profit and public service obligations, full of symbolic values and crowded with interests economic, sometimes conflicting. The volume describes this ecosystem simultaneously embracing more dimensions - from the legal-normative to the technological one, from the economic components to the more latently political ones, from the ideational-productive aspect to the forms of fruition, from the composition of the offer to the theoretical reflection and the Media Studies have exercised on it - offering abundant scenario data as well as different theoretical categories to interpret them.
