Abstract

[Autom. eng. transl.] Personality psychologists try to understand the characteristic ways in which people behave. Personality is the set of enduring characteristics that differentiate people - the behaviors that make each of us the unique individuals we are. It is always the personality that leads us to act consistently in different situations and for extended periods. We will consider various approaches, beginning with the psychodynamic theory that emphasizes the importance of the unconscious. Then we will see the theories that focus on the identification of the most important personality traits, the theories that see personality as a set of learned behaviors, the biological and evolutionary perspectives, and the approaches, known as humanistic theories, which emphasize uniqueness of the human aspects of the personality. We will finish our discussion by focusing on how personality is measured and how personality tests can be used.
