Abstract

[Autom. eng. transl.] Final essay of the proceedings of the international conference on Sicily in the early Middle Ages; an unprecedented research path emerges, which ranges over little-used areas and sources with results of great scientific relevance. The comparison between the barbaric world, the Byzantine East and the Arab Empire documents the socio-economic, political and social transformations of the Mediterranean, at the crossroads between Europe, Asia and Africa, before the year one thousand.
