Abstract

The volume deepens immigrants insertion and integration in labour market of host society, focusing on the ways by which immigrants succeed in finding a job. Often immigrants receive the main aim from people coming from the same nation and living in Italy from a lot of years. Nevertheless, the Authors underline how, a so natural way presents the serious problem to become a potential source of delinquency and segregation for the new comers. On the other hand, public institutions delegated to help immigrants to get a “regular” job not always are able to guarantee an efficient service, with the risk to perpetuate of illegal immigration phenomenon. The text, after a theoretical introduction on the Italian model of immigration and the role of ethnic networks, shows a series of case studies in Italian local realities, such as projects of Mauritius and Sry-Lanka people insertion in labour market in Catania, immigrants workers mobility in Friuli-Venezia-Giulia, getting a job in Milan for Albanian and Moroccan women, housemaids market in Napoli, migration policies and ethnic networks in Emilia-Romagna Region, workers from Ecuador in Genoa. The volume, in its conclusion, presents a synthesis of all observations emerged from the various contributions and insists on public authorities function, especially in helping the hole society to gain an equilibrium in which both original members and foreign communities may have the same opportunities to find a legal employment and to guarantee good services to their families and new generations.
