Abstract

[Autom. eng. transl.] Faced with the continuous return of the plague and in a condition of perennial uncertainty, during the fifteenth century the traditional ritual dramaturgy of mercy went on redesigning its elements, recomposing them in a new devotional device which aimed to make relief a shared practice, peace a principle social, of mercy the attitude and action of the entire citizen body. The essay analyzes some examples of the theater of devotion promoted in Perugia during the fifteenth century, understood as an instrument of progressive public institutionalization of mercy.
