Abstract
[Autom. eng. transl.] Contemporary scenarios postulate new educational goals with respect to which, in addition to education systems, numerous agencies are involved in the continuous training of the person, starting from the rich and complex reality of the family which, between potential and fragility, is configured as the first and fundamental field of human formation, passing through communities and territories. In this framework, the school, in collaboration with the multiple training agencies, is no longer required to transmit a given set of formalized knowledge but, rather, to equip people with skills to face the crises of our time, an aspect which first of all requires the development of a sense of universal responsibility, which enables us to feel like citizens who are active protagonists of their own future, in a logic of solidarity, equity and brotherhood. New categories of skills to support development therefore take on value: the non-linearity of the challenges that await us requires greater investments in the field of transversal training to equip young people with skills suitable for taking on the risk of following new paths, for relating to others in a positive way, to develop adequate levels of empathy. In this regard, it may be useful in this context to recall the pedagogical device of the paths for transversal skills and orientation (PCTO) which, activated starting from the 2018/2019 school year and provided in Italy for all final year pupils three years of upper secondary schools, are aimed at developing key skills and orientation, priority areas of development to exploit the positive potential of the young generations and direct it towards making decisions in support of fair and widespread progress.
