Abstract

[Autom. eng. transl.] Founded as an "educating community" by Agostino Gemelli, the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart had to deal with the great twentieth-century transformations of contemporary society and with the substantial modification of the characteristics and role of the universities. Introduced by a synthetic reconstruction of the educational and didactic profile, the essays collected in the volume retrace the historical history of the colleges and deepen themes such as the associative experiences, the first initiatives of permanent formation, the role of the spiritual assistants and the various modalities of economic aid to the students. The accompanying materials document the biographical paths of the professors and the directors of the colleges and allow the reconstruction of the institutional structures of the University and research facilities in the first fifty years of activity (1921-1971); specific historical series quantify the trend of enrollments throughout the century. The work is supplemented by a DVD.
