Abstract
[Autom. eng. transl.] The essay proposes a cultural contextualization of the translation into Italian of JJ Winckelmann's "History of the Art of the Ancients", which took place in Milan in 1779, with an insight into the role played by the Trivulzio family. We analyze some specimens of the collection and some texts from the library which were once kept in the family palace at Piazza S. Alessandro in Milan, which are correlated to the theme of antiquity as it was studied between the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries.
