Abstract
Political factions are widely documented in Greek federal states, both within the single poleis and in federal bodies. There emerge oppositions of different kinds, connected with constitutional issues or with disputes strictly related to federal matters. This paper does not aim to offer an exhaustive investigation, but to outline party conflictual stances such as democracy vs. oligarchy, pro-Spartans vs. pro-Athenians, pro-Thebans, pro-Argives, federalism vs. autonomy. In almost all cases these contrapositions overlap in the field of constitutional ideology, international alignment and federal policy
