Abstract
Foreign language learners are well aware of the centrality of lexis in communication and they often feel they do not master enough words to express themselves as they would do in their native language. \r\nExercises available on the Internet may be helpful in deepening word knowledge, provided that learners can choose the exercises they need. The book illustrates what is involved in word knowledge and classifies the learning techniques to further it on the basis of word meaning, word form and word usage. A wide selection of exercises available on the Internet is illustrated, thus empowering learners to respond to their own needs and interests. The taxonomy of the learning techniques presented in the book provides a model which can be utilized for autonomous learning.
