Abstract
[Autom. eng. transl.] Far from addressing historical-artistic or attributive issues, the essay intends to reconstruct the ritual and performative context within which it is conceivable to historically place the use of crucifixes with a moving language. In the first part a short picture of historical-critical studies is traced around the use of animated sculptures in ritual practices of the Middle Ages, focusing specifically on the typology in question. In the second part, however, a hypothesis is put forward concerning the use of this specific sculpture in the ceremonies of parasceve officiated by the Franciscan Order, in particular by the Observants.
