Abstract
The article focuses on the topic of luxury in Italian poetry during the last decades of the 18th century. The theme was widely discussed in this period, and has been studied in its economic and political implications; but it was also important for literary production. Giuseppe Parini condemns luxury and pomp in his satirical poem Il Giorno and in his ‘rime varie’, for their negative moral consequences; but the opinion was not unanimously approved. Therefore the poetic production of these years offers a series of different treatments of the topic, in line with the contemporary debates.
