Abstract
[Autom. eng. transl.] When the civil war broke out in 1936, Pío Baroja had to leave Spain and choose voluntary exile. Some years later, he recorded his impressions of those first days of the war in a book entitled The Civil War on the Border. Because of the censorship, the work remained jealously guarded for more than fifty years and was published only in 2005. The purpose of this work is to reflect on the techniques that the novelist uses to recall one of the most traumatic events of the recent Spanish past.
